Secure, Clean and Efficient Energy is one of the 7 themes of Horizon 2020 Programme under the pillar of Societal Challenges.

The Energy Challenge is designed to support the transition to a reliable, sustainable, and competitive energy system. ​

​Secure, Clean and Efficient Energy area focuses on reduction of dependence on fossil fuels and overcoming a number of challenges, such as increasingly scarce resources, growing energy needs and climate change. Thus, through this area, it is aimed to help in realization of EU’s energy and climate targets for 2030: at least 40% domestic reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 1990, at least 27% for the share of renewable energy consumed in the EU, and at least 27% improvement of energy efficiency.
