EXCELLENT SCIENCE

European Research Council (ERC) The European Research Council (ERC) provides scientist support according to the frontier criteria of scientific excellence. Decisions are taken by the scientists in the ERC Science Council, and the evaluations are made by the scientists who have a say in their field. ERC supports a researcher and a researcher's team who will work under a host organization. In this respect, it differs from other Horizon 2020 programs.

Young researchers who received the ERC Starting Grants PhD degree 2-7 years before the year the call was opened and who have reached a certain research maturity can benefit from the Initial Support. Publishing more than one important article independently from the doctoral thesis advisor or being the main author of more than one important article are among the research maturity criteria. The duration of the projects is a maximum of 5 years, and the projected budget per project is up to 1.5 million Euros.

Young researchers who received the ERC Consolidator Grants Doctorate degree 7 - 12 years before the year the call was opened can benefit from the Initial Support, researchers who have reached a certain research maturity and can prove it. Publishing an important article independently of the doctoral thesis supervisor or being the main author of an important article can be examples of this evidence. The duration of the projects is a maximum of 5 years, and the projected budget per project is up to 2 million Euros.

ERC Synergy Grants Gathering at least two and at most four researchers to reveal their complementary qualifications; It is expected to create a synergy between them and an important discovery that a researcher cannot achieve alone but can be achieved together. In the highly competitive call, only outstanding applications are accepted. The duration of the projects is a maximum of 6 years and the budget goes up to 10 million Euros.

Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) Supports high-risk, long-term, multi-disciplinary and multi-partner research activities; It aims to develop new ideas that can make radical technological changes. It encourages the emergence of new branches of science, especially by prioritizing interdisciplinary research. It is complementary to the European Research Council (ERC). In addition, while researchers in the field of ERC are supported individually, multi-partner studies in the field of FET are supported.

Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions

Individual Fellowships provides scholarships / support for researchers with a PhD or at least 4 years of research experience; Thus, it aims at career development by offering international and inter-sectoral roaming opportunities to experienced researchers from all over the world for research purposes. In this context, researchers who continue their research activities in Europe and outside of Europe and plan to return to our country or have just returned are supported.

Intra European Circulation (European Fellowships - Standard Panel):

They are individual research projects of 12-24 months, designed to encourage the circulation of researchers in Europe. There are three special panels: the Return to Career Panel, the Return to the Country Panel and the Application to Non-Academic Organizations Panel.

Researcher Outside Europe (Global Fellowships Panel):

It is a program designed to provide a circulation for research purposes to a university / academic institution or a non-academic institution (such as an industrial organization, NGO) conducting research activities in countries such as the USA, Canada, Japan outside of European countries. In this context, a researcher from Turkey can go for 12-24 months to countries outside Europe; but the absolute end of this period to 12 months in Turkey (or in Europe) and 12 must go back to an organization during the project should continue here. The total support period can be up to 36 months.

Research Networks (ITN) provides scholarships / support for researchers who have not yet received a PhD or have less than 4 years of research experience. Project partner organizations aim to provide education to researchers at the beginning of their careers (such as graduate and doctoral students) by opening research positions in order to encourage research on innovative topics within the scope of supported ITN projects.

Staff Exchange (RISE) It is an exchange program that researchers of all levels can participate in without leaving the institution. In this context, by forming consortia with researchers from inside and outside of Turkey and the European countries, it is intended to carry out technical and administrative staff exchange; Thus, it is aimed to transfer knowledge, technology and experience between sectors (academia / industry) and countries. It is necessary for the researcher sent to change to return to his institution in order to transfer information.

Co-funding Programs In our country, organizations that grant or are candidates for research scholarships are supported. Ready appeared from Turkey with COFUND with scholarships and support mechanism for research projects or organizations wanting to create such a program, regional, national and international establishment of scholarship programs or existing programs of additional funds to organizations that provide research grants for supporting are intended to provide. If the proposals of the institution applying for the scholarship program to COFUND are approved, they are funded by the European Commission and thus the scholarship opportunities offered through national organizations are expanded.

Within the scope of the European Researchers' Night program, it is aimed to organize a one-day event that will bring researchers and other individuals in the society together and encourage young people to science on the last Friday of September every year in all the European Union and Associate countries. The purpose, scope and expected impact of the activity, which will be created with the aim of encouraging young people to the research profession, breaking the prejudices against researchers in the society and introducing researchers as "one of us", are specified in the project proposal prepared by the institutions to apply. Public and public events are held throughout this Europe-wide event to encourage interest in research careers, especially among young people. These activities can be in various forms such as practical experiments, scientific demonstrations, discussion sessions, competitions, concerts.
